Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to build the strongest bridge possible with only TWO (2) materials: paper and painter’s tape (aka masking tape), which will span across a 30 cm space.
The Winner will get a free ticket from Science the following week and a “Yes” in attendance. 😊
- The bridge must suspend itself across 30 cm gap between two chairs or desks.
- The paper cannot be thick, like cardboard or Bristol board, it must be regular printer paper, newspaper, or craft paper. I think that’s fair. Let me know if you can think of anything else, but we need to keep this as a “constant” so that we can compare all our bridges.
- When you start testing, you need some sort of method or way of measuring the weight of what you’re putting onto your bridge, so you may need to safely borrow a scale from someone (safely, meaning, they wipe it down, you wipe it down and it’s from a trustworthy source)
- We may have to do two different categories: one group with masking tape, the other with clear, cellophane tape. The two tapes are very different and we need to keep this as constant as possible, with as few variables as possible.
