The start off to January has not been easiest with the weather, political climate and missing so much school. Please have a look at the following in order to clarify any information coming home.
1) Please send some extra socks and mittens to school in order for your child to be comfortable and warm after school. They love playing outside, but it is VERY wet.
2) All students are expected to read on a daily basis. Each month, the students are suppose to be reading a novel at their reading level. If your child is not reading, there is a problem and it needs to be addressed. Please ensure the independent reading book they read for December comes to school tomorrow (Tuesday), even if they're no done, they can at least accomplish an activity and/or coninue their reading. They will also be orally reading to me during our language block, whilst completing some reading response activities.
3) By grade 4 students should be having no more than 40 minutes of homework a night. I do not send home homework on a regular basis; however, if your child arrives home with a considerable amount, please ensure they do not work too long. No teacher wants to hear, "I stayed up late because I was trying to do all the homework". We simply want to reinforce concepts from the day. Practicing the multiplication tables is essential. If you are not able to get to the actual homework from the day, then practicing their tables is more than acceptable. Tonight's work is to complete the Math worksheet that was assigned on Thursday.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Merdina Price
